The American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid course teaches participants to identify and provide immediate treatment for victims of sudden illness or life threatening injury. It is intended for individuals that want to be prepared for emergencies in the community or with a responsibility to respond to emergencies in the workplace.

Course Description:  The Heartsaver First Aid course teaches how to recognize and treat medical emergencies and serious injuries.

Course topics include:

  • Medical emergencies including allergic reactions, heart attacks, stroke, seizures, and diabetes
  • Injury management including bites and stings, bleeding control, and splinting
  • Environmental emergencies such as heat stroke and hypothermia

This course is specifically designed for those who have a duty to respond to an emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. It is also appropriate for members of the community who want to be prepared in the event of a serious life threatening emergency.

Intended Audience:  This course is intended for individuals who have a duty to respond to ill and injured individuals because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements such as nursing assistants, coaches, personal trainers, and industrial safety teams. This course is also appropriate for members of the community who want to be prepared in the event of a sudden illness or serious life threatening injury.

Certification:  Successful completion of this course results in an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid certification card which is valid for 2 years from the date of the course.

Materials:  First aid materials and a 2 year American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid certification card are included in this course. The Heartsaver First Aid student manual is recommended for this course and is sold separately. If you already own one or have access to one before, during, and after the class, you do not need to purchase one during registration.

Testing:  A skills exam is completed at the end of this program. Proficient demonstration of First Aid skills is required for certification.
