Joseph McGill and Herb Frazier with Felice Knight: Sleeping with the Ancestors
Tue, Nov 7, 2023 from 7:30pm - 8:30pm
Joseph McGill Jr., founder of the Slave Dwelling Project, has spent countless nights in former slave quarters constructed and occupied by Black people in the antebellum period. The purpose of the project is to draw attention to frequently forgotten sites situated throughout America, to reconstruct their histories and re-imagine the stories of their enslaved inhabitants, often sharing the emotional experience with local groups.
Together with Herb Frazier, journalist and co-author, they discuss the revealing light this unique project has shed on race in America with Dr. Felice Knight, Director of Education, International African American Museum.
